A coastal Victorian Terrace in much need of natural light and cross ventilation. Unable to introduce skylights and set within a Heritage Conservation area, the design solution focuses on transforming the internal spaces by shifting the central staircase, removing walls and cumbersome storage, and connecting to the garden via floor-to-ceiling glass doors. A material pallet of blonde timber, soft blues and warm whites help brighten the open plan and complement the client’s existing artwork and furniture. A hidden powder room under the stairs is both functional and unexpected, a cheeky pop of black in an otherwise bright and sun-filled home.
